Hello babes! Today we’re going to be covering a hot topic: Trumpet vs Mermaid dresses! Our stylists get asked a lot about the differences of a trumpet vs mermaid gown and which one will work best with their body type, so let’s get right into it!

What is a trumpet silhouette? The trumpet gown has a tight fitting bodice throughout the hips and gradually flares out at the mid-thigh. This style of wedding gown is perfect for the bride who wants the look of a form fitting gown without a dramatic bottom. A trumpet gown works well with girls of all shapes and sizes, short and tall! With the flare starting at the mid-thigh it really elongates your legs and creates a great shape for the body.

PS! Adding a belt to the right gown will highlight the natural waist!

What is a mermaid silhouette? A mermaid gown is fitted through the bodice and has a more dramatic flare starting at (or below) the knee. This type of gown is perfect for the bride who want’s a bit of drama at the bottom but still a form fitting silhouette.

My brides on the shorter side might want to steer clear of the mermaid silhouette because it tends to not flatter short legs as much as a trumpet gown does. A mermaid dress works well with brides on the taller side to really showcase the flare starting at the knee!
