Fifty Years in Costa Mesa

1976

Verna Houston opens Mon Amie in about 400 square feet, next to an ice cream parlor in Costa Mesa.

1978

Laurel Mungo joins as the fourth person on the payroll, and the salon grows to 1,200 square feet.

1989

Mon Amie moves into its own building at 355 Bristol Street, built from the ground up to Verna's plans. We are still here today.

1990s

From the late 1990s to the late 2000s the salon fills the whole side of the shopping center, alongside a tuxedo shop, a cake shop and a photographer.

Today

Laurel, who learned the business from Verna, leads Mon Amie as CEO and President, with more than 2,500 gowns in the salon.

The people

The People You Will Meet

Laurel still spends her afternoons on the salon floor with brides and the team. Her goal for every visit is simple: whether or not you find your gown that day, you leave without feeling pressured, happy with what you saw in the mirror.

Betzi, our Bridal Manager, leads the bridal stylists who will guide you through the salon; meet our team. Sonia Martinez, our Alterations Manager, and her team fit your gown in-house; see wedding dress alterations.

Sample sizes

Gowns range from about $1,300 to $20,000, and most brides find theirs between $2,000 and $4,000. We are an authorized Justin Alexander retailer, and you can browse every designer we carry, with prices, on our designers page. Our plus size department has samples up to size 28.

Every appointment is free, private and about 90 minutes with your own stylist. Through the year we host designer trunk shows and sample sales, and for a private visit with your family and friends, ask about our after-hours appointments.
